Сочинение на тему: Dreams come true

Данное сочинение по сути является переводом, ранее опубликованного на этом блоге, рассказа о поездке в Гранд Каньон Мечты сбываются. Он так же участвует в конкурсе Международный конкурс по английскому языку - конкурс сочинений на английском языке.

Большое спасибо моему другу Марти Хоскинсу, который подал мне идею о написании данного рассказа, а так же отредактировал английский вариант.

Dreams Come True
I was 10 when I first saw on TV this place. "USA, Grand Canyon" said the announcer. Now I don`t remember what exactly what the transmission was about, but at that moment the dream appeared. I have wanted to visit this place very much. But I never considered this dream like something real. I wanted a dog and I was sure that when I grew up I would have one. I wanted a bike and I knew that in time I would buy it. I only needed to wait some time. But see the Grand Canyon with my own eyes...

I was born and grew up in Kiev, Ukraine and the possibility of trip to the USA seemed unreal. Time passed: school, college, work, marriage... But my dream seemed to me so nonreal that I did nothing to implement it. And then a job in the USA was offered to my husband. In autumn of 2007 we moved to distant, windy Chicago. And my dream became closer than ever.

Two years passed and tickets to Las Vegas were bought. Las Vegas met us in the beginning of December with warm weather, flashy advertising poster panels and, of course, with plenty of casinos.

In the first two days we lost 2 dollars in the casino and walked all over the Las Vegas downtown. In the evening of the second day we rented a car and in the morning of the next day, we left for the Grand Canyon. The trip to Grand Canyon National Park took more than 5 hours. On the way we stopped at Hoover Dam to take pictures. Unfortunately, at this time of year, the water level isn`t high, so we didn`t see all the beauty of one of the most famous places in the Las Vegas neighborhood.

Eventually we reached the Canyon. No stories or photos can really prepare a person for the scope and greatness of this beautiful ravine.

This isn`t just a big hole in the earth, but a vast space filled with fancifully formed rocks. The Canyon is like a huge, fabulous maze with walls of different colors. I can`t describe it with words. We wanted to spend hours there, but after the warm weather in Las Vegas, we weren`t prepared for the snow that covered all around. We drove to the east part of Grand Canyon National Park where we could see the river that seemed tiny at so big a distance. The mist appeared in the twilight. And in the haze, the Canyon looked even more unreal. We didn`t want to leave, but our teeth chattered from the cold and our fingers couldn`t push the button of the camera any more.

Now I`m sitting at home with a cup of hot tea. But I have a couple of souvenirs, hundreds of pictures, the hope to visit the Grand Canyon once more, and unforgettable memories: a precipice with mountainous slopes and a sparkling river far below in the haze.

Хотя зимние праздинки уже прошли и мы все с нетерпением ждем весны, я добавляю в "копилку" и этот рассказ. Требовалось написать о каком-то конкретном дне из Рождественныских праздников, который запомнился.

Позже я отправила это рассказ на Международный конкурс по английскому языку - конкурс сочинений на английском языке.

Christmas
In Ukraine we celebrate Christmas on January 7th. It`s family religious holiday. It`s a peaceful and quiet event, which begins on January 6th with Sviata Vechera (Holy Supper). When the children see the first star in the eastern evening sky, which symbolizes the trek of the Tree Wise Men, the Sviata Vechera may begin.

I remember one particular Christmas when, in the evening, our family gathered in my granparent`s old and warm home. At that Christmas I was 15, the age when teens think that they are adults and that nobody can understand them. My father took out from a bookcase an old photograph album with dingy black & white photos and started to tell stories about his childhood. And I saw a picture of a young man: he wore bell-bottomed trousers, his shirt was unbuttoned, its ends were tied in a knot, his hair was uncombed. My father said "It`s me at 17". Then he added "Don`t stare at me; it was fashionable".

I was speechless. In that moment I realized that this always serious man with a bald spot, who wears glasses, has not always been like this. That at some time he was full of crazy ideas, did some thoughtless actions, and thought that nobody can understand him.

Сочинение на тему: My Autobiography

В задании было сказано написать автобиографию в три параграфа: первый - прошлое, второй - настоящее, третий - цели и планы на будущее. Вот что у меня получилось:

My Autobiography

I was born on the 19th of November 1985, in Kiev, Ukraine. Like all other people I studied at school. My school was a little special – only two schools in our city taught Spanish instead of English. I was very proud of it. But when the time passed, many times I thought that it was a big mistake. Then I went to a college and started to work. I tried combine this two things, but I thought that work was more important and my studying always suffered. One of the biggest problems was the English language. I needed it for my work and for my college, but I had newer studied it and had to start from the beginning. At 19 I met my future husband. A few years later I married him and came with him to Chicago. 

What about now? More than two year have passed since I first came to the USA. Two months ago we moved from Chicago to Elmhurst. And I like our new apartment. It isn't cheaper, but it's located in a nice complex with free indoor pool and gym. At first it was a little inconvenient because there is not enough public transportation in Chicago's suburbs. But about a month ago I obtained driver's licence (I'm still happy about it), and now I don't depend on public transport anymore. My visa doesn't allow me to work in the USA so I spend a lot of time at home. I'm an introverted person, so most of my free time I spend reading books or some articles on the internet. I like to go for a walk, but I don't like bars or restaurants. I don't like noisy places at all.

I have many plans for my future. Some times I think that I have too many plans for one life. For the near future I plan to visit many places in Chicago and the suburbs and a few more places in other states. I have to say that I that I'm not sure how realistic my plans are. Of course I want to learn English. The next goal is not to forget English, like it was with Spanish, so I have to find some ways to practice and improve it. In one or two years I plan to return to Ukraine so I have to improve my other skills and maybe learn something new to find job I will like. However in a few years I may think about children and all my plans may change.

С сегодняшнего дня решила добавить в блог новую рубрику "Сочинения на английском". Данная рубрика навряд ли заинтересует кого-то из постоянных читателей блога, поэтому и выношу данные сообщения в отдельный раздел.

Зачем они тогда нужны? Так сказать "в помощь ищущим". Когда-то написание сочинений на английском было для меня серьезной проблемой. Я не знала как лучше начать рассказ, как сформулировать ту или иную фразу, и часто пользовалась интернетом для поиска образца.

Теперь я вполне готова поделиться своими сочинениями, как правило, домашними работами или частями контрольных. Размещать буду только те сочинения, которые были проверены преподавателями и отредактированы.

Сегодняшнее сочинение о том чем можно развлечь себя зимой в Чикаго. Задача была выбрать один из вариантов развлечения и описать детали. Я выбрала поход в кино ;)

How to have fun in Chicago in the winter

Chicago is a beautiful city. But in the winter it's very cold here. However, even at this time of year there are a lot of places to go in Chicago.
My husband and I like to go to the movie theater. Last time we were there on New Year's night, and saw the movie Avatar. To find out what cinema is closest to your house or work you can visit the web-site www.fandango.com. You have only to type in your zip code and you will see all of the nearest cinemas and movie times. You can even look at trailers to all the movies. Also for most movie theaters you can buy tickets online. Then you can look at the location of the theater on the map and you are ready to go.
